The LiLeón Foundation and ISFODOSU joined forces to highlight the poetic work of Salomé Ureña during the 26th Santo Domingo International Book Fair 2024.

On November 10, 2024, at the Reading and Writing Animation Pavilion (auditorium of the Natural History Museum), a group of 10 students from the Spanish Language and Literature program at the Salomé Ureña Higher Institute for Teacher Training (ISFODOSU) recited a special selection of poems by Salomé Ureña as part of the Book Fair activities.

Lidia León, president of the LiLeón Foundation, delivered the welcome speech and highlighted the poet’s and intellectual’s capabilities, as well as her contributions to higher education for women. She invited the audience to reflect deeply on Salomé’s figure and her various facets.

The rector of ISFODOSU, Dr. Nurys del Carmen González, attended the event.

Professor Sandra Alvarado continued the discussion by emphasizing the various themes addressed in Salomé’s poetry, including “representations of motherhood, optimistic but also disheartened portrayals of the homeland, an intimate life filled with melancholy and anguish over her absent husband, and household responsibilities.”
