Photoimagen 2024: Diario de Amores en Puerta Amarilla

For the second time, the LiLeón Foundation takes part in the prestigious Photoimagen event, under the theme of Objective/Subjective.
September 7, 2024. Diario de Amores by Dominican visual artist Mariojosé Ángeles was inaugurated at Puerta Amarilla in an event where a large audience enjoyed the exhibition proposal, consisting of photographs and videos. The exhibition was open to the public at Puerta Amarilla, the exhibition space of the LiLeón Foundation, until October 5, 2024.

Diario de Amores, according to Mariojosé, is “an exercise, a practice of expressing love, feelings, and affections from our daily lives, focusing on the simplest and most common flowers in our urban environment, many of which we overlook.”
Additionally, the artist highlights that the exhibition is a product of spontaneity, generated over 45 days of interaction and participation from friends, acquaintances, contacts, family, and the general public through social media.

The creative process unfolded naturally, with the artist conducting a photo session of the chosen flower, considering technical details and photographic rules to emphasize its details and, most importantly, its beauty. Every morning — between 4:00 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. — he shared his artwork on social media, where the audience’s participation and interaction marked the primary objective of the exercise, allowing for spontaneous expressions of love, affection, care, and admiration with the flower of the day as the sole protagonist.
The artist expressed that while social media and digital platforms enhance connection, expressions of love, affection, and care have become ephemeral. The lack of warmth has led us to fulfill our basic existential priorities, forgetting the most important: love, affection, and care among ourselves and with others.

The exhibition hall at Puerta Amarilla hosted a display filled with color, light, life, and emotions, where visitors enjoyed the proposal consisting of 4 large-format digital art photography images and 7 small-format digital art photographs. Additionally, there were projections of 4 video art pieces, 3 animations, and one monitor, blending beauty and movement to immerse the viewer in Mariojosé’s creative process.
