“Intermitencias” by Carmen Inés Bencosme
October 18, 2022, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. La Puerta Amarilla, the cultural space of Fundación LiLeón, was selected to be part of the places where photographers presented their proposals, within the framework of the biannual photo and video festival PhotoImagen 2022 Femenino/Plural, presented in Santo Domingo and Santiago, throughout the month of September 2022.
The inauguration of the audiovisual exhibition ¨Intermitencias¨ was held on September 6, 2022, with the participation of the artist Carmen Inés Bencosme; Lidia León, president of the Fundación LiLeón; Mayra Johnson, CEO of PhotoImagen 2022; Carlos Acero, curator of the festival, and important local and international figures who gathered to enjoy an emotional exhibition.
From September 6 to October 17, artists, photographers, students and the general public enjoyed an innovative proposal that presented an audiovisual that transported us to moments lived by the artist, where she combined the visual and the auditory to delve into her sensations and experiences lived, to meet again with the days of confinement in the pandemic and as she told us: “understand that nothing in life is linear, everything changes, and we must be open and attentive to enjoy each process.”
The artist’s proposal from its origin, sought to create an awareness-raising environment that would allow the enjoyment of all people regardless of their disabilities and abilities, which is why in a special way she invited different institutions such as: Instituto de Ayuda al Sordo Santa Rosa (ASSR), Círculo de Mujeres Discapacitadas (CIMUDIS), Escuela Nacional de Artes Visuales (ENAV) and the Saint George School; offering them guided tours, sharing her creative process and thereby allowing the different audiences to establish direct communication with the work, supported by Foundation LiLeón.
The biannual photography festival, under the general direction of Mayra Johnson and curated by Carlos Acero Ruiz, presented the photographic and video production made by women, and had the participation of curators, writers, collectors, art historians, managers, activists, and gallery owners of our time. This year´s event had nineteen exhibitions, between officials and off.
