Efecto Salomé, a project by the LiLeón Foundation, was presented during the III ENAV 2025 Conference on Art and Gender.

Monday, March 10, 2025 – Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The National School of Visual Arts (ENAV), in coordination with the General Directorate of Fine Arts, held the III ENAV 2025 Conference on Art and Gender from March 6 to 8 at the Celeste Woss y Gil Hall of ENAV.

This third edition paid tribute to three outstanding Dominican women artists: Ada Balcácer, Rosa Tavárez, and Elsa Núñez, honoring their long and significant careers in the arts and their contributions to education.

Within this major event, which featured renowned figures from the art and culture world such as Elsa Núñez, Myrna Guerrero, José Pelletier, Marianne de Tolentino, Lizette Mejía, Lilian Carrasco, and others, the LiLeón Foundation—represented by its president Lidia León and institutional strengthening advisor Yamile Eusebio—shared with attendees the details of Efecto Salomé, an initiative aiming to highlight the legacy of Salomé Ureña as part of the 175th anniversary of her birth, to be commemorated on October 21, 2025.

Ms. León shared insights about Salomé Ureña, recognized as one of the most prominent women in the Dominican Republic for her efforts to create educational opportunities for Dominican women and for her significant contributions to poetry and patriotic expression throughout her literary career. She also introduced the Salomé Ureña Program, a proposal that includes a series of activities to promote Ureña’s legacy as an educator and poet, supported by both the Dominican public and private sectors.

As part of the Efecto Salomé presentation, Ms. León announced that the LiLeón Foundation’s creative space will open its doors in October 2025 to host an exhibition on Salomé Ureña. During her talk at the III ENAV Conference, she invited students—along with their teachers—to submit proposals expressing their vision of Salomé and to participate in the exhibition, which will feature various interpretations of how prominent Dominican women artists see Salomé Ureña.
